VW’s 170mpg Diesel Hybrid Debuts With the Dancers From West Side Story

Volkswagen introduced their L1 diesel hybrid car in Frankfurt last week. It appeared amidst fanfare, lots of lighting, and a group of dancers that appeared to be straight off the set of West Side Story or Lipstick. When I see that kind of pomp around a car, I immediately assume it’s a pile of crap being over-promoted to save some executive’s reputation. Sort of like the Chevy Volt.

Volkswagen’s New E-Up EV Concept, Both Good and Bad

Volkswagen introduced their new E-Up! concept vehicle at the Frankfurt Motor Show Tuesday, promising production in 2013. The little car has some very innovative points and what some seem to think are down sides I see as bonuses.

BYD Gains VW As Partner, Ford May Follow - Other Partnerships Also In the Works

A lot of exciting news has happened regarding corporate partnerships and alliances over the past week or so. Volkswagen and BYD, Daimler and Tesla, and others. Car makers are entering the new era of auto manufacturing by taking a lesson from the tech sector: you can’t do it all alone anymore.

Volkswagen and Toshiba Team Up To Make Electric Car

Volkswagen has announced that it is teaming up with Toshiba to create an electric version of the Up! concept car. The minivan concept VW introduced a couple of years ago will go electric, as will a few other cars in their Small Family line.

Michigan Man Creates Electric Volkswagen Bug, Hopes to Offer Conversion Kits

For some reason, people love Volkswagen Beetles. Especially the older ones. Dale Kling in Michigan definitely wasn’t the first to convert one to an alternative fuel or even electric.

NAIAS Detroit Auto Show Roundup

I know, the NAIAS Detroit Auto Show isn’t actually over. In fact, only the press show is done, the public show starts this weekend. All of the major announcements that were going to be made, all of the cars that were going to be debuted, and all of the pontifications on how such-and-such company promises to be this-that-or-the-other in the future have been grandstanded. So we feel confident in giving a roundup overview of this year’s show.
