Tesla Motors announced what most in the industry probably saw coming: their in-house platform for the Model S sedan will be in later models too. Using a platform to create a series of vehicle models is nothing new and is, in fact, standard practice in the industry. The new models planned include a minivan, a crossover SUV, and a utility van.

The first-ever Electric Motor Show starts November 6 in Helsinki, Finland. The show will feature the famous Tesla Roadster and a newcomer to the field, Finland-owned AMC Motors with their Sanifer range of electric vehicles.

Compared to Tesla and it’s CEO Elon Musk, Fisker and its CEO Henrick Fisker, are a quiet little company in Southern California. The two companies are often compared, or more specifically, their vehicles are often compared, though. A new publicity promo from Tesla Motors has been released, featuring the 2011 Model S and chief designer Franz von Holzhausen. The Model S is to be Tesla’s first totally in-house design.

Tesla has announced that they expect to be profitable before the end of July, as was expected and announced in February. While some questioned that the company would ever become profitable, battery sales greatly augmented pre-sales and purchases of the Tesla Roadster. New deals with Daimler and others didn’t hurt either.

The Department of Energy has finally announced the first receipient of a low-interest loan from the Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Incentive Program (ATVM) program: Ford Motors. Nissan and Tesla Motors are expected to be the next in line.
