The Department of Energy has finally announced the first receipient of a low-interest loan from the Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Incentive Program (ATVM) program: Ford Motors. Nissan and Tesla Motors are expected to be the next in line.

Nissan’s officials have promised that their upcoming electric car will be a “real” car and not a neighborhood electric or limited speed vehicle. The EV-02 test mule was only that, a test mule, and is not indicative of what the body of the vehicle will look like.

The New York Police Department has put forty new Nissan Altima hybrids into its fleet and on the road. Eighteen of them are patrol cars while the rest are unmarked. They’re being deployed where they’ll be most useful, according to the Department. These 40 cars put the NYPD’s total hybrid fleet at 170 vehicles.

Nissan has been making the rounds with its Cube EV prototype, vising several cities in the northwest. They’re looking for two things, apparently: a place to “land” with their first production models of the Cube EV and a place to ultimately build them in the U.S.

It appears that if the State of Oregon has their way, they’ll become the nation’s electric vehicle capital. Three huge announcements have propelled this recently, though the state seems to be overlooking it’s current EV base.

Nissan has been talking about their electric vehicle plans a lot lately. First, with their planned partnership with Sonoma County in California and then with their official announcement that they’re swearing off all but battery EVs in the future.

On the tail of recent announcements by Nissan regarding their push for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) comes the announcement at the Show that the NV2500 and NV200 (both of which unveiled in Geneva this week) will be slated for possible U.S. releases next year.

In a somewhat bold move, Renault-Nissan has announced that they will not continue to pursue hydrogen or hybrid technologies in the future. Research and development programs into both hydrogen and hybrid-electrics has been discontinued and will continue instead with only pure electrics.

Alright, I’ll admit that the title is a bit of a teaser since Nissan hasn’t actually produced a model of a car that does those things yet. So no, you won’t be able to buy any kind of an “infinity machine” from Nissan anytime soon. No, what Nissan is doing is researching recharging units that use neither the existing electrical grid nor gasoline or diesel burning motors to supply power to a battery storage bank or electric motor.
