Tesla Moves Towards the Future With the Model S Platform

Tesla Motors announced what most in the industry probably saw coming: their in-house platform for the Model S sedan will be in later models too. Using a platform to create a series of vehicle models is nothing new and is, in fact, standard practice in the industry. The new models planned include a minivan, a crossover SUV, and a utility van.

A new publicity promo from Tesla Motors has been released, featuring the 2011 Model S and chief designer Franz von Holzhausen. The Model S is to be Tesla’s first totally in-house design.

Tesla S Pre-Sells 520 Cars in a Week

Tesla Motors unveiled the new Model S sedan at the end of march and in ten days has taken reservations for 520 cars and counting. For the bean counters, that’s $2.6 million in deposits (at $5,000 per car). The Model S doesn’t begin production until late 2011.

VIDEO: Elon Musk Gives First Model S Buyer Test Drive

After the Model S was revealed the other day, paying customers got the opportunity to test drive the vehicle they’ve been waiting so long to receive. The customer at the top of that list, Steve Jurvetson, got the first opportunity, and a ride with Tesla CEO Elon Musk himself showing off Tesla’s new EV.

Unveiling of the Tesla Model S Uncovers New Specs Too
The hot news right now is the unveiling of the Tesla Model S sedan, which happened with much anticipation and fanfare. Also released were the specifications for this new car from Tesla Motors. Tesla Announces Price Drop for S Model - Under $50k?

Tesla has announced that the Model S will be priced at $57,400 (base), rather than at $60k as originally stated. The reason for the price drop? After government incentives, the price of the S will be under $50k and the company has streamlined much of their supply chain.

Tesla Releases Model S Teaser Photo

Tesla has just released a teaser photo of their upcoming Model S electric car on their blog. Most of the car is covered and there’s not much to see. As we mentioned recently, the Tesla Model S is due to be a 5 door hatchback capable of seating four.

Tesla Gets $350m Loan, To Unveil Model S in March, Go On Sale In 2011

Tesla Motors made three major announcements in a press release today: the Model S will be in street-drivable form in March, the Department of Energy loaned them $350 million, and they’ll be solvent by mid-year this year (even without the loan).
