In a somewhat bold move, Renault-Nissan has announced that they will not continue to pursue hydrogen or hybrid technologies in the future. Research and development programs into both hydrogen and hybrid-electrics has been discontinued and will continue instead with only pure electrics.

Toyota’s Lexus brand showcased their new hybrid-only model, the HS 250h, which is slated to hit showrooms as a 2010 sales model, at the Detroit Auto Show this year. It’s Toyota’s second hybrid-only model (after the Prius) and is the second luxury hybrid model to hit the streets in production, the Fisker Karma being first.

Jumping on the hybrid vehicles bandwagon, Mercedez-Benz has released their S400 BlueHybrid to the European market and will be introducing it in North America in 2009 as the 2010 model. They claim it will be the world’s most economical luxury sedan with a spark-ignition engine.
