Mercedes-Benz Chairman: Hundreds of Thousands of Hydrogen Cars Coming

At the opening of the press events for the Frankfurt Auto Show, Dieter Zetsche, the chairman of Mercedes-Benz showed off the new F-Cell production concept and said that hydrogen cars would be coming in the “hundreds of thousands” over the next few years from a variety of manufacturers.

Mercedes-Benz Fleshes Out the E-Cell Concept

Back in January, at the North American International Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz introduced the concept BlueZERO platform for the modular production of three different vehicle drive trains: an electric (E-Cell), a hydrogen fuel cell (F-Cell), and a range-extended electric (E-Cell PLUS).

Mercedes F-CELL Coming to the U.S. in 2010

Mercedes-Benz has a new hydrogen fuel cell car, the B-Class F-Cell. The car has a top speed of 170km/h (106mph), a range of 385km (239 miles) and an output of 100kW/136hp and 290Nm torque. Wow!

Mercedes-Benz F-Cell Roadster Is Real: Hits the Road in Germany

When I wrote about this concept, used as a training exercise for 150 of Mercedes’ up-and-comers, I ended the article with “Really cool, even if it will never actually exist.” Well, I’m eating crow now because the F-Cell Roadster does exist as a prototype and recently went on a tour through Germany on the route that Daimler’s original Bertha Benz drove in 1888.

The Futuristic Carriage F-Cell Roadster from Mercedes-Benz

At first glance, you see this F-CELL Roadster and say “what the…?” Then you either like it or hate it. Personally, I really like it. This is one of the coolest concepts I’ve seen in a long time. The design is from junior employees at Mercedes who used the project as a learning exercise–the up-and-comer’s OTJ training.

The Mercedes BlueZERO Concept Trio Debuts In Detroit

Mercedes has introduced a trio of concept cars they’re calling BlueZERO. All three look the same, but are powered differently. The body and chassis frame are modular, accommodating one of three drive trains. The car design itself is a four-seater wagon that looks similar to a small Nissan or Honda wagon.
