Tesla Moves Towards Profitability Despite Lawsuit By Former CEO

Tesla has announced that they expect to be profitable before the end of July, as was expected and announced in February. While some questioned that the company would ever become profitable, battery sales greatly augmented pre-sales and purchases of the Tesla Roadster. New deals with Daimler and others didn’t hurt either.

Automotive X-Prize Competitors’ List Release: 136 Entries

The Progressive Automotive X Prize begins this month, with judging on the 136 official entries starting soon. To get in, these cars had to meet specific criteria, not the least of which is the ability to get at least 100mpg. The hardest to meet, however, is commercial viability. The vehicle must have a plan for mass production.

Mitsubishi Releases iMiEV Final Production Model & Photos

Mitsubishi launched the series production of the iMiEV on June 5 and along with it came pictures of the actual production model for the little car. The first batch of cars are to be leased to fleets in July (commercial and governmental) and consumer vehicles won’t be available until next year, and then only in Japan.

Lumeneo SMERA EV Now on Sale in France, Soon to Hit All of EU

Built in France by Lumeneo, the SMERA is a tiny electric car that sells for about 24,500 Euros ($33,000USD). The little EV debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008 and has made some touring around Europe. The car is now available in France and will soon be available throughout the European Union.
