Meet MAX - The 100mpg Home-Built Lotus Replica

Kinetic Vehicles had a vision. Their vision was MAX (Mother’s Automotive eXperiment) and that vision has become reality as a 100mpg biodiesel homebrew car. Although the project was sponsored by Mother Earth News, the sponsorship was mostly moral support as the builder’s wanted to show that this could be done by anyone.

I’m going to get a couple of things out of the way right off the bat: I think Crocs are a crock and they’ll never replace my Tevas. Dumbest shoes ever invented, with the possible exception of those plastic rubber sandal things that were popular in the 1980s in grade school. Luckily, this car is only being compared to Crocs and isn’t actually made by them.
Automotive X-Prize Competitors’ List Release: 136 Entries

The Progressive Automotive X Prize begins this month, with judging on the 136 official entries starting soon. To get in, these cars had to meet specific criteria, not the least of which is the ability to get at least 100mpg. The hardest to meet, however, is commercial viability. The vehicle must have a plan for mass production.

Optamotive Campagna T-Rex Enters Auto X-Prize

Codenamed the Surge, this rendition of the popular Campagna T-Rex high-performance car is going to enter the Automotive X-Prize. Optamotive, who made this conversion, is claiming 150mpg equivalency for this all-electric 3-wheeler.
Future Vehicle Technologies Debuts 275mpg eVARO for X PRIZE

The Automotive X Prize competition is heating up and the latest entrant is the new eVARO from Future Vehicle Technologies (FVT) in British Columbia.

Velozzi to Enter Two Cars in Automotive X Prize

Velozzi plans to enter not one, but two separate vehicles into the X Prize. Both are PHEV (plug-in electric vehicles) that can use a variety of fuels in their engines including gasoline, ethanol, biodiesel, and diesel fuel. This is “flex fuel,” at its best.
ZAP Alias Electric Car to Compete in Progressive Automotive X Prize

ZIP has just announced that their Alias electric car, unveiled for the first time at the NADA show in New Orleans, will compete in the Automotive X PRIZE sponsored by Progressive Insurance.

The Myers Motors NmG: Visions of Electric Cars in Every Garage

Right on the front page of their site, Myers Motors says that their goal is “Sub-$20,000 vehicles that are practical and affordable…” Pretty bold statement when you see that most highway-ready electrics with any range worth driving are triple and quadruple that amount (or more). So far, they’ve managed to bring the price point of their little electric to $29,995. They’re getting close.
