Study Predicts 32.7 Million EVs by 2015, Aptera Wants 100,000 of Those

WinterGreen Research, Inc. has published a study guessing that by 2015, there will be 32.7 million electric vehicles on the road. The study is available for the low-low price of $3,400, so if anyone wants to purchase it and read its entirety, let us know. Our guess is that it’s including ALL EVs, not just cars.

The Electric Car Stimulus Plan

Obama’s “stimulus” package (I’ll try not to get political here) includes some pretty decent tax breaks for purchasing alternative-fueled vehicles. In the big picture, the credits were originally set for a total of 250,000 vehicles, but have now expanded to 200,000 vehicles PER MANUFACTURER. That’s a big jump and one that could pump up vehicle sales.

Aptera is showcasing their new production model at the TED conference and has finally released the final spec list for the much-anticipated EV.

We’ve been covering the Aptera 2e for a while now at ZoomiLife, and have been dying to see more pics of the car - so far all that’s been available are Aptera’s official images. We figured that with Aptera’s release date so close, it was only a matter of time before more appeared on their website or in their newsletter. Well, it looks like we finally got our wish, but it wasn’t Aptera who came through, but an intrepid ApteraForum user known as apt2123h.

First Aptera 2e Rolls Out of the Factory

The first pre-production model Aptera 2e finally rolled off the factory floor, on time (finally). Scheduled to go into full production in October, this pre-production model shows off the real-world version of the stylish and unique Aptera for sure.

Aptera Delays 2e Production Until October

The production prototype model for the Aptera 2e was to be out for testing at the end of 2008, but that did not happen. In an email to potential customers and those who’ve deposited towards purchase, the company explains:
Despite our well-intentioned efforts, we were unable to complete that vehicle before the close of the year, so it’s now slated for January 16.

Aptera To Finally Begin Production in 2009

The Aptera, which has gone through several modifications and had many delays since its announcement in 2006, is now slated for 2009 production. The latest version of this three-wheeled car is the Aptera-2e. The name change isn’t the only thing this vehicle has seen in the past few years.
