Earlier in October, we talked about the Mission One team breaking the speed record for a production electric motorcycle. Well, it didn’t take long for the competition to show up. Lightning Motorcycles’ production prototype that bears their name burned past Mission’s speed (officially 150mph, unofficially 161mph) with a recorded 166.388mph hot streak.
Lightning accomplished the feat at the SCTA World Finals at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Lightning has stated that their production model will be offered for sale sometime in 2010, though likely only to higher-end buyers and amateur race teams. This new rendition of the Lightning model has A123 batteries inside.
So now that Lightning has chimed in, maybe next week it will be Brammo? Xero? Things are heating up!
