The little Indian company that could, REVA is not only going into full swing with production of their NXR and NXG electric cars, but now they’ve announced a new program called Revive that will come standard with the vehicles.
REVA is currently building a huge new manufacturing plant in India, from which their Asian and possibly European sales of the two EVs will be supplied. As part of their marketing efforts, REVA has announced a program called Revive to alleviate the “range anxiety” prospective electric car buyers might have.
The program is similar to General Motor’s OnStar program, but is cell phone based rather than a communicator in the car itself. The idea is that when your charge runs low or goes out of juice completely, you can text a number through your phone and activate a secret reserve of power in the battery to get you to a charge point.
That reserve, of course, is the 20% normally not used in a lithium-ion battery pack in order to preserve its lifespan.
I have to say this is actually a cool idea and “locking” it like that will help keep people from over-using those reserves, shortening their battery life. Here’s REVA’s commercial promoting the idea:
