Brammo To Debut New “Anti-Scooter” For Christmas Sales?

The rumor mill is alive again, this time with talk of Brammo having a secret vehicle they’ve been working on and which Asphalt and Rubber, which broke the story, says will on store shelves in 60 days. Apparently, getting the deal to sell Enertia electric motorcycles at Best Buy wasn’t good enough for Brammo. Despite only having recently begun full-swing production, the Oregon-based company may already be planning a new product release for later this year.
Or maybe not. BUSTED! Thanks to Adam at Zeroemotor.com, who pointed out that this photo is a Honda Ruckus, a gas-powered scooter. Which explains the tailpipes (which I “assumed” were battery packs). Thanks, Adam! Looks like A&R was busy with the Photoshop. Honda Ruckus information at this link.
Called the “Anti-Scooter” for now, it’s only rumor and it doesn’t have any official backing that I could find at Brammo. It does, however, have a slick picture (above) that ended up on A&R as proof.
This would definitely, in my mind, be a sales booster to augment the Enertia. It would likely be cheaper, would have a specific target market, and would hit the trendy, around-town crowd square between the eyes. The idea is to get into the market that doesn’t require a motorcycle license to ride a scooter or moped.
In the picture, you can clearly see what appear to be ports where pedals would be inserted for that latter group. The advantage an electric manufacturer has is that speed restrictions to match individual state and (sometimes) county laws are all electronic, so no hardware or expert mechanics are required to make it happen. This means that product shipped to Montana, say, could have a different top speed than those shipped to California.
The debut of these may be in the next sixty days in order to get customer feedback and then finalize design. So the production version may not be out before Christmas, it’s still pretty cool. I can say, looking at the photo, that this is one of the few scooters I’ve seen that I’d actually be willing to own and ride.
