To pretty much everyone’s surprise, the Tata Nano, the $1,000 Indian car that looks like an iMiev with four doors and even tinier tires, has passed European crash testing. Tata wants to get the little Nano onto European roads before 2012 and appears to be well on the way towards that goal.
Of course, the car will be a little more expensive in the EU version, due to improvements in safety, but this shows that the tiny car has a chance. Emissions testing is next and may be a bigger hurdle. There’s been no mention of a U.S. release date (if any), but there’s a fair chance that it would pass U.S. crash tests as well, if it can get through European standards.
