The Swiss BRUSA Spyder Electric Performance Car

Not into the Lotus looks the Tesla Roadster has? Well, how about the classic Porsche 550’s style? The Swiss company BRUSA Electronik is banking on that with their new Spyder electric performance roadster.
The 270 horsepower electric Spyder takes the Porsche classic and strips it of all but its bare essentials, then ads an electric power train and turns it loose.
The twin 100kW motors power the rear wheels with independent controllers, creating the EV equivalent of a differential. Sort of a modern positronic system, but with a lot more control and options.
In all, the Spyder produces that 270hp and a whopping 324 foot-pounds of torque. The whole vehicle weighs about 2,000 pounds (curb) and does 0-62mph in under 5 seconds. Under the hood (in front, of course) are lithium-ion polymer batteries at 16kWh with better than a 100km range. This on a four hour charge time at 220V using the built-in converter.

Nearly every component in the car is made in-house by Brusa and the car uses less power per mile than 1.5 liters of gasoline (equivalent).
The car is not in production yet and no time frame or price tag has been given. It’s not likely the Spyder will be seen outside of Europe, but one can hope.
