ZeroTruck Enters Production, First Model Sold to Santa Monica

The ZeroTruck by Electrorides has finally entered production with the first unit being sold to the City of Santa Monica in California.

The ZeroTruck is a medium-duty electric truck and is based on an Isuzu N series chassis.  Electrorides claims it’s the first all-electric truck built in the USA and for sale in the U.S. in 2009.

Here’s the specs for this utility electric:

  • 60mph speed limit (electronically programmed)
  • 0-60 in 18 seconds
  • 65-75 mile range per charge
  • 12 hour charge time (to full) at 220v
  • UQM PowerPhase 100 motor
  • LCD Touch Screen vehicle operations monitor
  • Fast charge system available (cuts charge time in 1/2)
  • Low cab-forward design for better visibility to driver
  • Regenerative braking

Several test models are already on the road, having been issued into various markets in the country, for road trials.  The City of Santa Monica was the first full purchase of one of the new EVs, however. As pictured above, the city’s truck will be outfitted with the Scetzi utility body.

Santa Monica’s new truck will be used by the Water Division as part of the city’s Sustainable City Plan to reduce emissions from petroleum.
