Lumeneo SMERA EV Now on Sale in France, Soon to Hit All of EU

Built in France by Lumeneo, the SMERA is a tiny electric car that sells for about 24,500 Euros ($33,000USD). The little EV debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008 and has made some touring around Europe. The car is now available in France and will soon be available throughout the European Union.
The little 2-seater is very thin and looks a lot like the cockpit portion of an Apache helicopter, with the passenger sitting just behind the driver. The SMERA is capable of 80mph, does 0-60 in about 8 seconds, and goes about 90 miles on a charge.

The car went on sale in Paris in May and will be available in most of Europe by this time next year.
While the car is definitely kind of goofy to look at, it kind of grows on you to become really cool. Especially when you see some action shots, like that below, showing how it leans into a turn. This kind of thing makes me think it’s got to be a lot of fun to drive.

The SMERA has two doors, two seats (the rear seat can be removed for increased cargo space), a very tight turning radius. It’s total curb weight is about 770lbs (batteries are 180lbs of that) and is only 5.7 feet long.
IT uses brushless electric motors, puts out 30kW (40hp), has a 144V system with li-ion batteries. As stated, it goes 80mph (130kp/h) with a range of up to 90 miles (150km).

Pretty nifty little car, though no plans for a North American release are given.
