The Texas state legislature has moved a new law out of committee and is now considering a law that would change how electric and electric-assist bicycles are viewed in the State of Texas.
This law would remove the 100 pound limit on bicycle weight, increase the allowed speeds of a bicycle to 30mph, and has no language requiring that bicycle to have pedals.
This means that most small scooters and mopeds would be considered pedestrian bicycles under Texas law, greatly opening up the market to consumers by easing registration requirements for these light electrics.
You can read the proposed legislation here and track its progress at this link.
