If James Bond owned an electric bike (provided by Q, of course) or if Jason Bourne wanted to exhibit unexplained bionic abilities, they’d get a Gruber Assist. If they did, would Lee Majors have grounds for suing for infringement? These are the questions that the Gruber Assist raises for me.
This is a 200W motor hidden in the seat stem of the bicycle. The Gruber Assist is not meant to replace pedaling or make the bike into a all-electric vehicle, but instead to act as an assist to the rider on difficult terrain like hills and grades.
It can be added as a conversion to almost any existing bicycle. It requires that the bicycle have a straight, continuous seat tube that’s 31.6mm (0.14 inches) or larger and one of the popular Shimano Hollowtech II crank set. The battery is a NiMH in a small saddle bag.
It’s built specifically for mountain, trekking, and touring bikes. Gruber also makes a bicycle called the Comfort, featured in the video below:
