Electric Motion Systems Brings Back the TidalForce M-750 x2.0 Electric Bicycle

Electric Motion Systems, who make E+ Electric bikes, has teamed with MATRA Manufacturing to re-tool and bring back one of the most powerful electric bicycles made: the TidalForce M-750.  It will be introduced in a limited edition of just 240 units and feature a hugely powerful 1000W motor.

The bicycle itself is an interesting mountain bike frame that’s hard to describe.  It has a thick top rail and no bottom at all. That’s because the frame is actually the leftover units from the Montague Paratrooper frames used to build specialty bikes under DARPA-approved settings for military and law enforcement. Basically, the company had 240 of these frames left and decided to re-issue the powerful M-750 in a limited edition run.

Did I mention that the frame folds for storage or transport in another vehicle? That’s a large part of it’s design.

These 240 bikes are available only in the U.S. While the design is aesthetically interesting, it’s the power under the hood…well, in the hub anyway, that makes this bike so cool.  If it looks like the bike has two hub motors, don’t be fooled: the front hub is the battery pack.

Imagine riding a bicycle with this cool design with the power of 1000W (84Nm torque) at your disposal.  That’s serious power. The bike is capable of better than 30mph without pedaling and has a range of about 15 miles at that speed without rider assist.

With pedaling, the speed can go up another 50% and the range can effectively double.  That’s some serious riding.

The bike’s battery is a 36v NiMH system with 10Ah and rides on the front hub for better balance. The throttle is a thumb-type and the driven train is 21-speeds with all Shimano and SRAM parts.

Another thing that makes this bike a unique part of the E+ line is the power modes that they provide. E+ is known not only for great design and powerful bikes, but for innovation in powered bicycle concepts as well.  Like all E+ models in the x2.0 series, the M-750 includes 18 power modes, cruise control, and more.

The modes are either 9 forward power settings for propulsion or 9 resistance modes for maximizing exercise.  That makes the E+ x2.0 series more than just an electric-assist bicycle, but also a universal transportation device, a fun ride, plus a workout machine.

Each of the 240 limited edition units is numbered in sequence and ships with the new owner’s name engraved for personalization.

Electric Motion Systems is located in Dulles, Virginia while MATRA Manufacturing is in Paris, France.  You may recall that another of EMS’ bikes made our Top e-Bikes of 2008 list.  The TidalForce M-750 is available now for $4,495.
