FedEx Paris Fleet Gets Electric Vehicles

FedEx has been testing two human-electric hybrid 3-wheeled bicycles for small delivery route operations.  During the 11-week trial, the little LEVs managed to deliver over 2,400 documents and parcels.  They were used in the most densely trafficked part of Paris and proved their worth as an efficient way to getting around for the package carriers.

FedEx is acquiring three more to try in other parts of town.  The 3-wheeled electric bicycles are made by Urban-Cab, which also markets the vehicles as rickshaw-like 2-passenger cabs.

Another electric that FedEx is testing in Paris is the Goupil delivery van (aka “cube van”). It’s a small, four-wheeled delivery truck with a 1-meter cubed cargo compartment.  These have a 15mph top speed and a 40 mile range per charge.  Goupil markets the trucks as delivery vehicles with a variety of cargo bed styles.
