In a showdown to remember in Las Vegas on Friday night (May 1), an exhibition match between five Zero X and five Quantya Track motocross motorcycles took place. The Zero X is the all-electric powerhouse from Zero Motorcycles in Oregon and the Quantya Track is the all-electric jump meister with Swiss timing.
In the end, the Swiss precision won out over the Zero’s pure American adrenaline, taking first and second place. The winning riders were Brian Roth and David Lodermeier from the Quantya team took first and second while Blake Mitchell, who’s becoming a legend on the Zero, took third.
Since both manufacturers also have street/enduro machines, it’s possible that the next matchup could take place on pavement. Rumor has it that this may indeed be the next showdown between the “rival” e-moto makers.
Regardless, what we’re seeing here, folks, is the birth of a new type of motocross sport: the all-electric, e-cross. Except this rivalry to just be the beginning and to see a new league of racers begin to appear.
Kudos to AMA/Maxxis for putting on this first-ever showdown between electric motorcycles on the MiniMoto Supercross dirt track. Kudos to the two teams for giving it their all too! Totally killer!
