Nissan has been making the rounds with its Cube EV prototype, vising several cities in the northwest. They’re looking for two things, apparently: a place to “land” with their first production models of the Cube EV and a place to ultimately build them in the U.S.
Well, the first question has been answered: their landfall will be in Seattle, Washington. The reasons given for their choice are fairly vague: “The population of Seattle is at the forefront of really living its environmental ethos,” says Mark Parry, director of product planning for Nissan North America.
Whatever their reasoning, Nissan has been smart about one thing: avoiding California, which is the battleground for Toyota, Honda, Tesla, and the rest. In Seattle, no one compares your car to a Roadster.
The deal comes with a network of charging stations already in the works for both Washington and Oregon. So far, though, no comments have been made about where the production plant will be located. Nissan has said they want to have that production plant on-line for production by 2011.
