The first of the Norwegian-spec’d Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen RE models have arrived in Norway for delivery to the government. These are the same as the Japanese test models already on the road (one of which was sent last year for Norwegian testing), except these Norwegian versions have left-hand drive and manual transmissions.
These RX-8s are part of the national hydrogen project called HyNor. They’ll be part of the media event on May 11 when hydrogen refueling stations will be opened and showcased. Mazda, of course, gets free publicity and a chance to get a foothold in Norway as their hydrogen project gains traction and public interest through infrastructure.
The RX-8 H RE will go on lease in Norway to the public this summer. The cars are already available for commercial lease in Japan under their Japanese configuration. Like most Mazda sports models, these utilize the rotary engine rather than piston engines.
Mazda has three hydrogen models of which the RX-8 is one. Watch for upcoming posts on these machines here on Zoomilife.
