At the Swiss Show of Renewable Energy and New Technologies (Energissima), Green GT showcased its new prototype FIA-spec racer. This all-electric race car prototype has two water-cooled 100kW motors giving 1,475 lb ft of torque.
The car can sustain that torque up to 100mph, which then decreases to 590 lb ft until the car tops its speed at 170mph. The whole thing only weighs 1,896 pounds and has two 30kWh lithium-ion polymer battery packs on board. Better yet, the racer also has flex-cell solar cells on the body. The PVs provide minimal power during racing, of course, but Green GT made their name with solar, so they’re sticking with it.
The company plans to test this car against the clock throughout the summer and then build a small fleet based on improvements to this prototype. That fleet of 20-25 cars will be aimed at starting a European all-electric series. After energy storage catches up to petro-fueled racers, they’d like to move the cars into LMP2 endurance series racing.
Pretty awesome!
