General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC) announced plans to build fuel cell vehicles in 2010. The Shanghai Auto Show is full of surprises this year and this collaboration between the two companies is amazing news.
The Shanghai Branded fuel-cell vehicle will use the new propulsion system that’s in the 100 or so Equinoxes that are currently being tested in GM’s Project Driveway program. The companies plan to build 10 of the new fuel-cell vehicles for testing in China.
The new package is a smaller vehicle than the Equinox, using the Roewe 750 sedan (pictured above). So the frame and shell will be an SAIC vehicle with GM’s guts inside it.
The two companies will be showcasing the new fuel-cell vehicles at next year’s World Expo 2010 Shanghai.
