Shanghai Auto Show: Changfeng CS7 Hybrid

This year’s Shanghai Auto Show sure does seem to be all about the eco-vehicles.  Changfeng introduced a hybrid SUV called the CS7.  This one is a pure hybrid that is a really unqiue PHEV.

The SUV has a 1.3 liter, 4 cylinder engine that receives a boost from a little 10kW motor that doubles as a starter.  Another electric motor (this one 30kW) powers the rear axle, making the SUV all-wheel drive.

A lithium-ion battery pack powers both motors at 288V and these can be plugged in to receive a charge from 220v.  The SUV can travel 30 miles on a charge without the engine assisting (in rear-wheel drive mode).

The CS7 seats five with room for luggage.  It’s design is interesting, to say the least, but the Dodo Bird front grille and hood aren’t what I’d consider stylish.  It’s kind of cut off in the back too, like a minivan, but is a unique concept for sure.
