Zero Motorcycles Announces Zero S Electric Supermoto Bike

The much-anticipated announcement from Zero Motorcycles about the supermoto Zero S has finally been made. This all-electric street bike complements the already-revolutionary Zero X motocross bike the company is famous for.
This is a performance bike on a grand scale. The bike’s frame is aircraft grade alloy and it’s got a huge power-to-weight ratio advantage over most motorcycles on the road today; whether they be traditional combustion or electric. The entire bike weighs only 225 pounds at the curb and puts out an impressive 62.5 ft-lbs of torque (31hp)!
We covered this bike’s first announcement in February and Zero followed through with their promised Spring release for the bike today. Total price for this awesome machine is only $9,950 (plus shipping) and that doesn’t include any qualifying tax credits.
Using the company’s proprietary Z-Force technology, the Zero S has lots of redundant systems for protecting the batteries and drive train as well as charging and discharging. Other features include full-float calipers, shark tooth brake rotors, and other high-end braking system parts.
Of course, what you want to know is “How fast?” Right?
Top speed is 60mph with up to 60 miles per charge and a four hour charge time (to full).
Further Specs:
- Brush perm magnet motor
- 31hp (peak)
- li-ion array battery pack (4kWh/58V-70Ah)
- 110v or 220v charge
- One-speed clutchless transmission
- Chain-driven
- 55.75 inch wheelbase, 35.5 inches high at the seat.
In all, this is an extremely impressive machine from a company that’s been producing electric motorcycles for quite a while. Don’t forget the upcoming Electricross that Zero is hosting this month too!
