Tesla Motors unveiled the new Model S sedan at the end of march and in ten days has taken reservations for 520 cars and counting. For the bean counters, that’s $2.6 million in deposits (at $5,000 per car). The Model S doesn’t begin production until late 2011.
Tesla has not said how many of those orders are for the limited Signature Edition, of which only the first 2,000 will be made. Deposits for that are $40,000 for reservations.
Another 104 Roadsters were delivered in March as well, which makes March 2009 the first time Tesla broke the 100 vehicles in a month milestone.
Right now, things are looking up for Tesla Motors. Let’s hope the Model S early reservers aren’t taken for a ride like the early Roadster adopters were.
