In a bold move, Mazda released a press announcement Friday stating that the company has no plans to develop either a hybrid or an all-electric vehicle of any type. Calling the technologies “niche market vehicles,” Mazda instead says they’ll be focusing on becoming even more fuel efficient using other technologies instead.
An earlier press conference had Mazda Motor Corp. director Seita Kanai saying, “Even in 2015, the gasoline engine will account for nearly all autos around the world with electric vehicles and hybrids making up a tiny niche market.”
The company plans to focus on lighter materials, better engine technology, and other fuel efficiency boosters to increase the mpg average of its models.
In today’s political and automotive climate, that’s a bold move on Mazda’s part.
