Rumor has it that Toyota has two “secret” EV projects: a new Scion and a new MR2.
Scion’s new concept car is headed for New York for the New York Auto Show, but hasn’t said what that vehicle is, exactly. All we know is that it’s a “micro-subcompact.”
Some think that this alludes to a Scion-branded Toyota iQ (Scion has a “tD” moniker at the Patent and Trademark Office).
We won’t know for sure on this one until the show on April 8th, I guess, when Scion will be holding a press conference.

Scion’s parent, Toyota, meanwhile is apparently quietly fitting the MR2 sequel into a PHEV model to compete with Honda’s popular CR-Z. This would probably be based on the powertrain of the concept FT-HS shown off back when the Prius was still a new idea.
It’s likely that the MR2 name could be resurrected for this, and probably still be a 2-seater sports model.
Interesting rumors from the Toyota front.
