The Power of One (Xof1) solar car has broken the world distance record for a solar-powered vehicle. The journey, amazingly enough, started by accident.
The car was originally slated to go from Toronto, Canada to Buffalo, New York and left on June 12, 2008. It was invited to many different cities and venues during that trip and ended up making quite a few detours to accomodate.
In all, the Xof1 traveled over 12,000 miles, breaking the world record. It did so during some of the worst weather in history, almost all in the low-angle northern hemisphere, and more. 1,200 miles of gravel roads, snow, ice, rain, more rain…
A great journey and very cool. The Xof1 team is still looking for sponsors to further improve the design and try for another journey, yet to be announced.
