The Tazzari Zero electric city car hasn’t been in the spotlight much, but that’s about to change. The company has announced that a December 2009 launch date will be facilitated by their new North American distributor: Verdek.
Verdek is headed by the former CEO of Pirelli’s North American Tire division. The Zero will be available in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and the Caribbean. In the U.S., it will be sold as a neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) with electronic speed limiting according to your state’s laws (anywhere from 25-35mph).
The company plans to put the car through NHTSA crash-testing as soon as possible (no date set) and if it passes, those cars purchased with the software limitation will have it lifted so they can reach their full potential (56mph).
Verdek has launched a new Facebook group to support the Zero’s release and to accompany their support of Coulomb’s charging stations (aka “Smartlets”). Verdek already carries the popular ZAP! vehicle line.
