The new i MiEV electric car from Mitsubishi has received a fair amount of notice in the past few months as an urban commuter EV. This new version sees some improvement to the design and looks.
Personally, I think the iMiEV is one of the dumbest-looking cars I’ve ever seen. It’s like a (new) VW Beetle that someone set off a bomb inside, rounding it out like a puffer fish. All that aside, though, it does have impressive stats.

First, this new version is slightly larger than the older one–by a whopping 20mm. The shape has changed somewhat, but not really all that much, but the solar cells have moved lower, making them a little larger. They now occupy the “lower dashboard” area of the windshield as well as the top (as before) of the pop-top roof.
The car still uses the aluminum space frame to give it its basic framework and provide low-slung space for the lithium-ion battery packs, greatly reducing mass. The motor in this version is much larger at 60kW (from 47) and has a longer range as well, by almost 20 miles.
Great steps forward for this EV.
