GoCycle: The Innovative Electric Bicycle from Karbon Kinetics

The Gocycle is one of the most top-to-bottom innovative electric bicycles we’ve seen in a long time. From it’s minimalist-design Magflow injection-molded magnesium frame to its Cleandrive fully-sealed gearbox, this bike is really futuristic.
The best part? It’s not just a “design” or a “concept,” but a real bike that you can actually buy, ride, and own right now!
Let’s look at some specs:
- 9ah NiMH batteries (3.5 hour full recharge)
- 250w motor
- Range of 20 miles (pedal assist)
- Top speed of 30mph (pedal assist)
- Max rider weight: 220lbs.
The bike is awesome to look at, though a fair amount of functionality is lost in favor of style. No rack, basket, or front suspension (which can be added) is on the bike. The frame itself is awesome, though, and the wheels (made the same way as the frame) are definitely ultra-cool.
The 2008 production line sold out quickly and the Spring 2009 pre-order models are already halfway sold out, largely due to the Gocycle company’s unique “Gocycle to Work” program in which EU employers purchase the Gocycle and slowly take the cost out of the employees paycheck over time (enjoying tax incentives in the process).
Pre-orders (purchases before March 31) are being taken at 999 pounds (regular price is 1,158). The bikes are sold in Europe, mainly Britain and the Netherlands. U.S. orders (with the specs listed here, which are different than the European ones) are by mail only.
Overall, this is a really cool bike. I’d like to see some mods for it to include a battery level indicator and some ad-on racks and so forth, but it’s still pretty awesome.
