General Motors, not satisfied with the billions in bailout funds the Bush administration lavished on them after their month-long begathon last year, has now called on major cities (especially San Francisco) to “become plug-in ready.”
In return, GM might pick you to be the favored city that the Chevy Volt debuts in. Yay. While San Francisco is already working with Better Place to become plug-in ready, they weren’t doing it to appease GM. In fact, given the financial woes of most of California, I think that this new round of begging from GM is hugely inappropriate.
At any rate, the Volt hits the streets of America next year and has received a lot of hype. Hopefully it delivers on some of those expectations. Being a plug-in hybrid, however, the Volt doesn’t require a “plug-in ready” city to perform. If that’s what GM wanted, why didn’t they just build a pure electric?
Do I sound bitter? Ya, well, I’ve been doing my taxes. You know, doing my “fair share” to keep Detroit operational. (EDITOR: me too, and I’m not happy about it. It’s time for these car companies to stop their begging, stop spending millions on their incompetent executives, and start making some cars that Americans can be proud of. Grow up, Detroit - we are all tired of your retarded incompetence)
