Chery Motors in China has officially launched their new A5 BSG hybrid sedan. The former Chrysler partner debuted these cars at the Olympic games in Beijing, giving fifty of them to game officials to use.
The BSG (belt-starter generator) is similar to GM’s mild hybrid system, but without a NiMH battery. It’s sort of an auto start-stop system powertrain, which improves fuel economy some, but that’s about it. It sells for half the price of the F3DM hybrid from BYD (at $11,000), but doesn’t offer nearly as much in comparison.
I guess the rule for knockoffs always applies: you get what you pay for. That Guuci watch might look like the real thing, but when it breaks next week, it’s just another $5 chunk of plastic.
