Mission One Electric Motorcycle Comes Out of Stealth at TED

This is easily one of the coolest revelations to come out of the electric motorcycle arena (or any other, for that matter) in a very long time. Maybe ever.
Mission Motors has revealed the Mission One electric motorcycle at the TED conference (Technology, Entertainment, Design). Up until now, the company has managed to keep tight wraps on this one and the surprise in the EV world is palpable.
The bike was designed by Yves Behar and put together by a dream team of EV designers with resume’s that include companies like Tesla Motors, Ducati, and even Google. Forrest North, Edward West, and Mason Cabot are all co-founders of the Mission Motors company and are chiefly responsible for the plan to put this bike together.

The Mission One will make its race debut at the TTXGP in June and will probably be one of the hottest entries there. With 150mph top speed and a range to match, this bike will fly with the 100 foot pounds of torque it produces.
A special Limited Edition model will be delivered in 2010 with only 50 bikes produced at a $68,995 price tag. A standard and more affordable version will be announced this summer. Likely to be lauded as the Tesla of motorcycles, the company has produced something paradigm-busting, to say the least.
Here are some specs on the power train and performance:
- Lithium-ion HE (high energy) batteries w/ integrated safety
- Liquid-cooled 3 phase AC induction motor
- 100 lb-ft torque starting at 0 RPM (up to 60mph)
- Single-speed transmission, #525 O-ring chain
- 150mph top speed
- 150 miles per charge (estimated)
- 2 hour recharge at 240v or 8 hours at 120v
- Adjustable regenerative braking

The wheels are Marchesini forged 17-inchers, the front brakes are 4-piston calipers while the rear is a single-piston caliper (both from Brembo). The suspension is by Ohlins with an adjustable inverted fork on front and a single shock/piggyback on the rear.
I’ll say it one more time: this has got to be the hottest thing to come out in EV in a long time. Maybe ever. This motorcycle is nothing short of badass.
