ZIP has just announced that their Alias electric car, unveiled for the first time at the NADA show in New Orleans, will compete in the Automotive X PRIZE sponsored by Progressive Insurance.
The Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE (PIAXP) is a technology-neutral competition open to teams from around the world that can design and build production-capable 100 MPGe (miles per gallon energy equivalent) vehicles that are affordable and meet market needs for capability, safety and performance.
The ZAP Alias electric car is a two-seater, three-wheeled freeway-legal roadster with a 100 mile range, regenerative braking, gullwing doors and other amenities. The Alias roadster is to be priced at under $35,000. While production has not yet started, ZAP plans to produce a limited number of Alias roadsters available for sale in 2009.
