Express transportation giant FedEx Corp. and electric vehicle manufacturer Modec have announced a new fleet electric delivery vehicle that they plan to roll out for use in the United Kingdom over the next several months. Modec is due to deliver an initial 10 vehicles for trial in the UK, which will initially operate in the London metro area.
The electric delivery trucks, which are the first to join the FedEx Express fleet in the UK, feature a large, removable battery pack and can travel up to 70 miles on one overnight charge. The new vehicles are part of a growing fleet of more environmentally-friendly FedEx Express vehicles that includes more than 170 hybrid electric vehicles worldwide.
Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: “It is great that these super zero emission vehicles will be introduced onto London’s streets. Vehicles such as these help to improve air quality, reduce noise pollution and cut climate change emissions, making the capital cleaner and greener. I am keen to promote a massive increase in low carbon vehicles across London to both play our part in tackling climate change and help to create a green economy.”
