Zero S Electric Motorcycle Coming This Spring

Coming this spring, the Zero S all-electric motorcycle will be hitting the streets. Priced at under $10,000 and with a range of up to 60 miles and a top speed of 70mph, it’s a pretty cool machine.
Made by Zero Motorcycles, the makers of the Zero X electric dirt bike that we’ve covered earlier, the Zero S is the street version of that motocross bike.
The two bikes look similar, though the new S has a more street-lined design and less purely open space and aggressiveness than its supermoto sibling. It’s powerful little motor will deliver 50ft:lb of torque and the clutchless one-speed setup means no shifting for smooth acceleration to 70mph.
Other awesome things in this bike’s design are the ultra-high output battery packs that deliver 300 amps of power without overheating. The programmable control box allows you to limit the top speed to 30mph (making it unlicensed, street legal as a bicycle) or to dampen the acceleration for a more staid and safer ride.
The Zero S electric motorcycle will be available for purchase in the “spring of 2009″, according to the Zero Motorcycles website. You can pre-order yours today with a $1,0000 deposit, or just pre-pay in full - the retail price of the bike is $9,750.
If you live in North America or Europe, you likely have a Zero Motorcycles dealer somewhere near you.
