The National Car Park (NCP) is auctioning off 50 electric vehicle charging parking points across London. The auction is for one year’s use of a reserved parking space with an EV charging unit. Winners can choose their spots from a provided list and bidding is being done online.
Of course, GoingGreen, whose charging stations are part of the setup, is touting this as a way to get people into electric cars. While that could happen, it’s more likely that current EV owners will be the ones doing the bidding. As Treehugger points out, though, some people don’t own EVs simply because they don’t have a place to park and charge them (having no garage) or because they can’t get the range to commute round trip.
Having a guaranteed charging point and parking spot near either place could be the answer.
I think it’s a cool idea and it’s obviously generating some interest and press. That’s probably the point of the whole thing, but at least it’s EV news.
