ZAP Introduces Electric Van and Truck at NADA Expo

ZAP is introducing two new electric vehicle models this year at the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) expo, going on right now in New Orleans. ZAP is introducing a four-wheeled van (which reminds me a lot of a Volkswagen bus) as well as a three-wheeled utility truck.
The van, also known as the ZAP Shuttle, is a four-wheeled low-speed NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle) which was designed for transportation around campuses, to and from parking lots (think Airport Shuttle) and indoor spaces. The seats are removable so it can convert into a cargo vehicle with 108 cubic feet and a 900 lb. total carrying capacity. Large slider doors on both sides and a rear lift hatch provide access to the rear compartment. At 138 inches, its length is just shy of most mini-vans and at 6 ft 2 inches it has plenty of headroom. The MSRP for the ZAP Shuttle is $14,700.

The truck, also known as the ZAP XL, is a four-wheeled utility truck. The XL has a cab for two and can can carry up to 800 lbs for on-road use, and up to 1600 lbs when in use on private roads and facilities. The XL has a convertible, drop-side bed construction to convert to a flatbed. ZAP’s XL Truck can be ordered with options like air conditioning, enclosed weatherproof cargo box, solar charger, above-bed utility rack and rapid charging system. MSRP is $14,500.
Since both vehicles are rated as NEV’s, they are electronically limited to a top speed of 25 mph and are legal to use on roads with posted speed limits of up to 35 mph. Both vehicles can recharge from a standard 110 volt outlet, and can recharge fully in about six hours.
