The Mitsubishi Corporation has penned a deal with the French group PSA which will supply 10,000 MiEVs to them in 2011 (which doubles expected European production estimates). These cars will be sold under PSA’s current distribution network under the Citroen and Peugeot brands.
The deal will not only expand Mitsubishi’s market for the new vehicles, but will improve the green cred of both European brands–something many of the old European car companies are struggling with, just as their American counterparts do.
Current production of the i MiEV is to reach 2,000 in 2009 and 4,000 by the end of 2010 with higher-volume mass production in 2010/11 to reach 20,000 units (now). Mitsubishi says the increased production will lower costs and boost the car’s competitiveness on the market.
No pricing releases for Europe or the U.S., but the car is currently selling in Japan for about $27,500USD.
