The Mercedes BlueZERO Concept Trio Debuts In Detroit

Mercedes has introduced a trio of concept cars they’re calling BlueZERO. All three look the same, but are powered differently. The body and chassis frame are modular, accommodating one of three drive trains. The car design itself is a four-seater wagon that looks similar to a small Nissan or Honda wagon.
The E-CELL model is all-electric, the E-CELL Plus is electric with a gasoline generator for extended range, and the F-CELL is a hydrogen fuel cell version. All three have the latest in lithium-ion technology for power storage, though the size and number differ with each model.

The motor is also standard for all three models. It is a permanent magnet, 100kW peak (70kW continuous), gives a maximum 13,280rpm and peak torque of 320Nm (180 continuous). That’s better than a V6 gasoline engine at 2,500rpms!
The batteries in the EV version have a 35kWh capacity and are located at the center of the vehicle in all models, as part of the “sandwich floor” design.

The E-CELL Plus model has a range of up to 370 miles at 62mpg (NEDC fuel consumption numbers) with a 93 mile battery-only (no motor) range. The engine is a 1 liter, 3-cylinder turbo.
The all-electric E-CELL has a similar range (about 100 miles). The F-CELL is reported to get similar numbers to the E-CELL, but no official information from Mercedes has been announced. Mercedes-Benz is staying quiet on that one for now.
