The Vespa Electric Conversion by Soundspeed Scooters

Vespa scooters (and their knockoffs) are extremely popular little machines. I’m not sure why, since I really don’t like them much, but it appears that their “retro” looks appeal to a lot of people. Enough people that a company has started taking the noxious 2-stroke engines out of them and converting these scooters into all-electric rides.

The TronBike: Kawasaki Ninja Electric Motorcycle Conversion

Todd Stiers, from Berkeley, California, wanted to make an electric vehicle. He thought about converting a car, but decided to do a motorcycle instead. Considering he didn’t have a motorcycle license, had no experience riding one on the street, and didn’t own a bike to convert, that was pretty gutsy.
His blog at tronbikes.com details his odyssey from day one (July 7, 2007) to present. The bike has gone through several versions and changes since then, but he first had it operational in November of 2007.

We’ve been covering the Aptera 2e for a while now at ZoomiLife, and have been dying to see more pics of the car - so far all that’s been available are Aptera’s official images. We figured that with Aptera’s release date so close, it was only a matter of time before more appeared on their website or in their newsletter. Well, it looks like we finally got our wish, but it wasn’t Aptera who came through, but an intrepid ApteraForum user known as apt2123h.

Japanese Researchers Harness the Power of Poop

Science has finally found the ultimate answer to our green energy needs: poop. To be precise, it’s manure. The Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine and the Sumitomo Corporation (both in Japan) have joined together to figure out how to make a cow’s leftovers (manure and urine) into hydrogen for use in fuel cells. Apparently Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome was translated into Japanese at some point; inspiring a professor to make electricity from dung.
