Electric Mini Field Trials Applications Open!

Electric Mini Coopers! Electric Mini’s here! Get yer Electric Mini!
Alright, Austin Powers Fans, it’s time to go apply to get in on the field trials of a new Electric Mini Cooper. Applications open today and are available only until December 10. Wait a minute, though, don’t go there yet. You’ve got to qualify first.
- Do you live in the Los Angeles or New York City or New Jersey areas?
- Did you add ZoomiLife.com to your RSS subscription list? (OK, we made that one up)
- Do you have an enclosed garage with electric access for 220v?
- Will you pony up $850/month for the privilege of testing a Mini?
- Does the Mini make you horny, baby?

You also have to have had a driver’s license for five years and have a clean driving record. Since they’re only fielding 500 of these cars, I guess they figure they can be pretty choosy. Oh, ya, you’ll have to pay some up-front fees and taxes too, plus insurance.
Did I mention your service contract and reporting obligations? Ya, you have to bring it to them for service at appointed intervals and fill out forms online and keep a driver’s log book as well. Oh, and the test is for a year and you don’t get to keep the car after it’s over. Sorry.

Here’s the good news: the Mini seats two. Backseat for batteries only. The car’s specs aren’t bad, though, with 0-60 in 8.5 seconds and an average range of 104 miles on one charge (optimum of 156) and a 3.5 hour charge time.
So click through and see if you can drive one! Get some coffee first, though, the application will take at least an hour to fill out.
