This isn’t some dinky electric scooter. The SBK Superbike, made by electric scooter maker Vectrix, is currently a concept vehicle; Vectrix is waiting for 500 orders before they begin manufacturing this product. And at US$80,000 per bike, this monster does not come cheap.
But the specs are impressive: The Vectrix SBK concept is driven by a 240V, 60kW permanent magnet, brushless DC motor that delivers peak torque of 102Nm at zero RPM, with a 7.5kW/hour, lithium-ion battery which weighs 140lbs. The bike itself weighs 448lbs.
The range of the SBK varies depending on your average speed:
125 miles at a steady 25mph
60 miles at 50mph
40 miles at 75mph
Vectrix claims that the top speed of the SBK will be about 125mph and will be able to pull off a standing quarter mile within 12 seconds. The batteries will hold enough charge for 20 flat-out laps of the Vallelunga circuit in Italy, “in eerie silence”.
While it won’t be competing in the TTXGP, this bike was built by the organizers of the event to promote it and showcase what is possible with electric motorcycles today. This bike is impressive, to say the least, and [...] Read More...
